Dan Hughes, originally from Vancouver Island, received a BA in Writing from the University of Victoria in 1994. He has worked for the Department of Indigenous and Northern Affairs since 1996, with six years spent in the British Columbia Treaty Process. After moving with his family to Ottawa in 2001, Dan worked on issues relating to the international human rights framework, and was a member of the Canadian team that helped negotiate the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Today, Dan manages public reporting and special initiatives within INAC's Regional Operations Sector. He is an alumnus of the 2017 Emerging Leaders for Sustainable Community Development program.
