Brianna has had a colorful and diverse background working within her community in many roles and capacities including event planning in many areas: from traditional weddings and funerals to long house and traditional ceremony cooking and protocol surrounding traditional ceremonies.Currently, Brianna is a Student Ambassador for Vancouver Island University, where she is working toward her Bachelor of Education Program degree. Brianna is also the mother of an exceptional young indigenous women whom is entering her first year of medicine in the fall of 2018. Brianna volunteers for numerous community projects while also striving to maintain a high level of excellence in her studies, which is reflected in top marks and continuous support through scholarships and bursaries. She is an alumnus of the 2017 Emerging Leaders for Sustainable Community Development program.

Brianna Thorne is of mixed ethnicities. Her mother and family have strong roots within the Cowichan territory more specifically her the Somena village located within the Cowichan Tribes. Brianna's father's family are direct descendants from Greece.
